April 18, 2011
Tallapoosa River Volunteers paddled the rapid waters down the river on Saturday April 16th.

After a night of torrential rain storms, some of the volunteers for the Tallapoosa River Canoe Trail decided to proceed with a planned clean up paddle down the river. It was decided only experienced paddlers should attempt the faster than normal water flow. With the river height up about 2 ½ feet over normal, seven of us began our paddle at the Garner Rd input. Our original thought was to take out at Monroe Mill Rd but with the swift water, we continued to Poplar Springs Rd. We picked up a couple bags of trash, but the river was clean for the most part. At our take out at Poplar Springs Rd there is a log jam under the bridge. As soon as the water level is appropriate we will clear the jam for through paddling.
